Dylan Bailey has over 34 years in the boating industry. And a lifetime on boats. He started at an early age working with his father, metal boat builder Howdy Bailey, where he learned every aspect of metal boat building and repair. Dylan had a yacht management business for 20 years managing yachts of metal, wood, and fiberglass construction before becoming a marine surveyor 8 years ago. Dylan is a member of ABYC, SAMS, and Dylan is the former SAMS Regional Director for Florida and the Caribbean. Dylan has served on the Board of the Metal Boat Society and was the Editor of the Metal Boat Quarterly.
WORK EXPERIENCE
I have been in the marine industry for twenty-nine years. Starting with working in my Father’s (Howdy Bailey /Marine Metals) yard. Sixteen of those years have been in the boat building industry. Working for builders of metal, wood, and fiberglass. I have experience in all areas of the industry from building to painting, blister repair, rigging, and electrical. In 1991, I began my own business maintaining and managing power and sail yachts between 36 and 65 feet. As a yacht manager, I am involved in helping owners maintain their yachts in bristol and seaworthy condition. I have learned the art of surveying by working as an apprentice.
